Stop pollution starting indoors

Indoor air can be dirtier than the street outside. The easiest wins cost nothing.

  1. 1

    Fan on before cooking

Frying and grilling release lots of fine dust. Switch the extractor on first, use back burners, and open a window.

  2. 2

    Keep smoke outside

Cigarettes, vapes and shisha indoors fill the air with particles. Smoke outside, away from doors and windows.

  3. 3

    Fewer candles and incense

They give off more soot than most people expect. Use them less, or switch to electric options.

  4. 4

    Wood burners

A wood burner is a big source of indoor and outdoor PM2.5. If you must use one, burn only dry 'Ready to Burn' wood.

  5. 5

    Filter and ventilate

A purifier cleans the air; open windows replace it. Use both: filter the dust and air the room to clear gases and damp.
